About the scheme

Lichfield District Council and Tamworth Borough Council now deliver a shared waste and recycling service to homes across Lichfield, Burntwood, Tamworth Borough and surrounding areas.

Councillor Michael Wilcox, Leader of Lichfield District Council, said: “By working together with Tamworth , we will help to cut carbon emissions by reducing the amount of miles our trucks travel overall. As a bigger customer we will also get better value from suppliers, and be in a position to test out new recycling methods more quickly. We will also be better placed to respond to emergencies, such as bad weather. Above all, we’re confident the partnership will deliver better value for money.”

The new waste and recycling team are based at Lichfield District Council’s purpose built waste and recycling depot in Burntwood.

Councillor Danny Cook, Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, added: “This new initiative will provide a more efficient service for tens of thousands of residents across both areas.”
